Magick money charm
by Marie Angeli on Mar.13, 2012, under history, spells
Hello dears!
Here is a charm from my own family. My great grandmother Josephine, who gave me my middle name, was a very powerful and intelligent woman. Most of my family believes that she was quite traditional, but she ended up taking over the family business in Wyoming after her husband died, becoming president and then regent of the bank of Wheatland, during a time when women did not fill those roles. She was quite professional! But, she also was a charm maker. Having lived in her house for a number of years, I can tell you that her charms were numerous, simple and effective, and almost invisible!
She made one very simple charm for prosperity and good fortune that may have been so common in Victorian times, that its original purpose was eventually forgotten and it became a simple sachet. No matter, the charm worked for her. enjoy!
This type of magick charm is one that can be performed anywhere and does not depend on moon phase or astrological sign or magickal hour. This is folk magick pure and simple, and is always done at the most practical and convenient time. We will be using orange peel for good fortune, and cloves for money!
For this spell, you will need a good organic orange. Since inorganic grocery store produce most often is filled with chemical pesticides, I tend to recommend staying away from it for magickal purposes. Go to the health food store and spend the money for the nicest looking and sweetest smelling one that you can find. If you are lucky enough to live in an area where oranges grow, go to a neighbor’s house and trade something for a chance to pick your own. The purity of the fruit can be gauged by the lovely smell, and it is that smell that we are looking for. Make sure you wash and dry it well once you get it home.
While you are fruit shopping, get a good bottle of whole cloves. You may need two bottles if they are small.
Go to a fabric store and try to get a real silk ribbon. Not a polyester or rayon or acrylic ribbon, but natural fiber real silk. Buy one between 1/2 and 1 inches wide, and about 2 to 3 feet long.
Go to your sewing kit and get 4 straight quilting pins with the colored heads.
Go to your magick cabinet and get a white, orange, or green candle. Actually, if you are lucky enough to find a real bayberry green candle, use it! Besides the amazing smell, that is a great choice for a prosperity spell.
You will not need incense.
Salt and one small bowl of water, a hand towel, and one small glass of water will complete your tools.
Get setup on your kitchen table, or wherever you can work alone and undisturbed for a half hour or so.
- Light your candle and take the orange in your hands. Take a moment to visualize your prosperity, the good fortune you need and what you’d want.
- When you feel as though you have a clear idea then go ahead, with one hand hold the orange, and with the other hand pour the salt in the bowl of water.
- Stir it around with your finger, and dip the orange into it. The salt water is clearing all negativity or external energy from the fruit. After all, many people may have handled the fruit, so it’s a good idea to clean it up a bit!
- Once you feel the clean energy, then holding it over the bowl, pour the glass of pure water over to rinse it.
- Dry it on the clean hand towel and then rest it there. Since the other objects come from sealed packages or rolls, and aren’t handled much, we won’t worry about cleaning them psychically, unless you feel it is necessary.
- Now get your length of ribbon and 4 quilting pins. Fold the ribbon in half and gently crease it. Place the crease over the flower bud end at the bottom of the fruit (or the navel if that’s the type of orange you have). Take one pin and stick it through the ribbon crease and into the orange bud all the way to the pin head.
- Still allowing the orange to rest on the towel, take the ribbon and gently tie it in an easy knot at the stem end of the orange. Take another pin and push it through the knot and into the orange. Then take the other two pins and push each of them into each side of the orange, halfway up the ribbon from bottom to top. You will have a pin at each of four corners.
- Be careful not to handle the orange by the ribbon as yet.
- Now take the jars of cloves, and empty them onto the towel in front of you. Take one and push it into the orange and thru the peel, so that the knot at the clove end sticks out just a bit. Do this systematically all over the orange, covering the surface and piercing the peel over and over at regular intervals, about 1/4 inch apart.
- When you are done, you will have two halves of a clove covered orange, separated by a ribbon.
- Now, take 3 of the pins out of your ribbon, leaving only the first one you pushed into the flower end still in the ribbon and orange, pinning the ribbon in place.
- Untie the ribbon and retie it, tightening it firmly, and making a double knot at the stem end. If you wish, go ahead and take one of the quilting pins and push it into the double knot, hiding it in the folds of the knot where it will help to keep the ribbon in place.
- Now take the ends of the ribbon. You should have plenty to hang the orange with, and you can place it over a towel rack, a curtain rod, a hook of any kind. Place the loop over and tie the ends into as nice a bow as you can manage. Or tie the bow and then hang the orange, it is up to you.
Your charm is made. Sit back for a moment and enjoy the wonderful smell of this charm. Then pinch your candle, and allow the waters to flush down the drain and any remnants of your magick to be carried away. Let the water run for a moment or two following. In the name of good sense, keep the remnants of your wonderful prosperity candle for the next charm. Comment below and let us know what you are asking for, and perhaps even your magickal results!
Best of luck! May your good fortune bring you your heart’s desire.
Blessed Be,

A Message in a Bottle
by Marie Angeli on Mar.11, 2012, under astrology, garden, spells, the moon
What a wonderful day to plant bulbs!
Good morning, everyone! Just a heads’ up, the moon is about to go on into Scorpio. It is the waning phase, and the Scorpio moon is considered second only to the Cancer moon for fertility, so anything that bulbs or fruits below ground is wonderful to plant now. Also, Scorpio is known for it’s ability to produce flowers and good strong vines – sort of like Virgo, except with the mega fertility of a water sign. Go for it! Garden your socks off today! Just avoid the temptation to harvest anything you are not going to eat right away – assuming that you HAVE anything to harvest at this early in March… But the Scorpio moon can also make anything you pick rot pretty quickly. All that strong water energy will rot your potatoes if you pick them now, so resist the harvest unless you eat it today or tomorrow.
HOWEVER, water magick of all kinds is truly excellent now.
- Pick a leaf if you have access to flowing water, either a stream or the sea.
- You can write your wish on the leaf, and then roll it up and tie it if it is big enough.
- If you can, write the wish in symbols, like a rose for endless love surrounded by a heart. Or you can use the charm that folks have been using for hundreds of years: your initials + your partner’s initials surrounded by a heart. What, you mean you didn’t realize that was a magick charm? Use your imagination! I’m using a love spell example, but you can wish for whatever you …..wish!
- Write out a rhyme with your wish in it. Short and sweet. Example: “Deep sea, endless sea, bring my true love back to me.”
- Chant your rhyme over and over as you hold this leaf. Chant your energy and your wishes into the leaf. Imagine the energy of your wish flowing into the veins and fibers of the leaf, filling it up.
Common Sense Alert: When we do high ritual in our private places, we do so with incense, sound, costumes, noise, or whatever roasts your toast. The kind of natural magick I’m writing about here, happens quietly and personally. If you are alone on a beach, you can sing out your chant. If you are standing on a boardwalk next to a river, surrounded by a million people, you can easily chant your charm silently so they don’t call the Crazy Train to come pick you up!
- When you are ready, let it go! Toss it into the water and let the water take it away.
- The return flow should bring your wish back to you, or at least that is the tradition. How do you think all those notes got put in all those bottles anyway, eh?
Please note: if you time your spell to just after the high tide, the natural flow of the tides will help your wish travel. The return tide will bring you word (remember to Listen), and soon your wish will return to you.
Enjoy your day, lovies!
Blessed Be,
Marie Angeli
